Q. What is BEA Certification?
A. The BEA Certification Program, offered by BEA Education Services, objectively validates knowledge and expertise on BEA technologies. The program incorporates competency testing and provides three levels of solutions-oriented certifications that span a number of different roles critical to the successful development, implementation and administration of enterprise projects. The certifications are granted by passing the required exams in a proctored testing environment.
Q. Why become BEA Certified?
A. BEA Certification enables and measures the proficiency of application development and implementation team members and helps maximize the return on BEA technology. Proven role-based technical training, available through the BEA Certification Program, builds customer and partner self-sufficiency by transferring BEA knowledge and best practices across the IT lifecycle.

Q. Who should be certified?
A. The BEA Certification Program is for developers, administrators and architects using the BEA product stack looking for ways to differentiate themselves in today's competitive marketplace. The program does not provide sales, consulting, or support certifications.
Q. Are there any pre-certification requirements?
A. There are no specific pre-certification requirements to obtain a BEA certification. However, the certifications are based on the most current product version and we encourage all certified individuals to stay abreast of the latest technologies and BEA product versions.
Q . How do I evaluate my existing skills to see if they are applicable to certification?
A. Compare your background with the descriptions for each certification profile and review the exam requirements and objectives for each certification. BEA Education Services offers comprehensive training courses to assist with certification preparation. For more information, please contact BEA Education Services .
Q. What impact does this new program have on my current BEA Certification (BEA Certified Specialist, BEA Certified Administrator, BEA Certified Architect)?
A. This new Certification Program will not impact those individuals with existing certifications, however the new 8.1 program logos and branding will not be distributed to those with existing certifications. To receive the new 8.1 certification logos, individuals will need to pass an 8.1 Certification exam offered under the new program.
Q. What impact does this have on my 7.0 course-based certification that I am working towards?
A. The 7.0 course based program was discontinued on February 16, 2004. However, the course requirements were honored through April 1, 2004 for those achieving their certification by attending courses. Should you have questions regarding this change, please contact the BEA Certification Program Office at certification@bea.com
Q. Will the BEA WebLogic Server 6.1 and 7.0 Developer exams remain available?
A. Yes, the BEA WebLogic Server 6.1 and 7.0 Developer exams will remain available at all Prometric testing centers through January 2005. The certification that applies to these two exams is BEA Certified Developer. Customers that achieve this certification will receive a printable pdf of their certificate and the rights to use the corresponding BEA Certified logo, which is accessible through Learning Profile. Exam prep resources for the WebLogic Server 7 Enterprise are available.

Q. How many Certifications are available?
A. There are three Certifications currently available:
- BEA 8.1 Certified Developer
- BEA 8.1 Certified Administrator
- BEA 8.1 Certified Architect
Each certification has specific designation(s):
- BEA 8.1 Certified Developer: Build Solutions

- BEA 8.1 Certified Developer: Portal Solutions

- BEA 8.1 Certified Developer: Integration Solutions

Q. What is the difference between a certification profile and designation?
A. The BEA Certification Program is targeted towards three audiences: Developer, Administrator, and Architect. Each certification profile has specific designations or areas of "specialization" for the participants to choose from, allowing them to have a focused certification path.
Q. Do I need to pass a certification exam for each designation to receive a BEA Certification?
A. No, only one designation is needed per certification; however an individual can receive more than one designation should they wish. Please see visit Requirements and Preparation for specific exam requirements.

strong>Q. Are there any Tuxedo Certification available?
A. No, BEA currently does not offer BEA Tuxedo Certifications.
Exam Information
Q. What is the cost per exam?
A. The Developer & Administrator exams will cost $150 USD*. The Architect exam will cost $175 USD*, as it is a more extensive and time-consuming exam. *Or equivalent local currency.
Q. Where can I take the certification exam?
A. Proctored testing will be offered worldwide via Prometric Testing Centers. For locations please visit www.prometric.com .
Q. What is the certification exam format?
A. All exams are proctored exams and have approximately 68 multiple-choice questions and are scored on a pass/fail basis. The Developer and Administrator exams will take approximately 120 minutes to complete and the Architect exam will take approximately 180 minutes to complete.
Q. What is a passing score on a certification exam?
A. Candidates need to score 66% correct or better on the exams to pass and become certified.
Q. When do I receive my exam results?
A. Immediately upon completion, Prometric will inform you of your exam score.
Q. How do I prepare for the exams?
A. Training courses are highly recommended for certification preparation. The fastest way to competency is achieved by attending BEA Education training. Please see the Requirements & Preparation for the recommended training courses and exam objectives. Also, refer to exam objectives and study guides for additional reference materials.
Q. What happens if I fail the exam?
A. You are allowed to take the exam up to three times in a one-year period from the date you first took the exam, with a minimum of 30 days in between exams.

A. BEA Certification exams are offered throughout the world. To schedule an exam, visit the Prometric (worldwide) website or call 877-205-6873 (US only).

Q. What information is required to schedule an exam?
A. General contact information will be required. For more details visit http://education.bea.com/certification/exam_reg.jsp .
Q. What do I need to bring?
A. Certification candidates are required to provide two forms of identification at the testing center, including one photo identification such as a driver's license or a valid passport. Both forms must display the candidate's signature.
Getting Certified
Q. Will I need to sign a Program & Terms Agreement or Exam Confidentiality Agreement?
A. Yes, prior to beginning your exam at the testing center you will be required to agree to an Exam Confidentiality and Program Terms & Conditions Agreement. A profile survey will also be required at this time.
Q. How will I receive my certification certificate and the certification logos?
A. You will receive an automated email within 5 business days of completing your exam. This email will detail how you can access Learning Profile. Additionally, for those who passed the exam, instructions will be provided for accessing the BEA Certification Logos. For those who failed the exam, information on the exam re-take policy and recommended training will be provided.
Also for those who passed the exam, the BEA Certification Program Office will email the applicable BEA Certified certificate in a printable, PDF format within 10 business days.
Q. How do I access the Learning Profile?
A. To maintain your personal profile and track your certification records, visit the Learning Profile . If you are a visiting Learning Profile for the first time, you will need your Candidate ID, Registration Number, Date of Exam and Site Number. BEA encourages you to use Learning Profile as a way to maintain your personal account information, view your test history, and track your certification status/progress.
